In this article, Alessio Frassinetti lists some tips and explains some techniques to improve driving. These tips can be applied both in driving at high speed and on very winding roads.
There are mainly two types of drivers : those who approach driving out of necessity and those who do it out of passion . Then there is a third hybrid category, that is, those who do it out of passion and necessity. Surely there are some things that you need to know or better that you learn during specific courses, such as safe driving or more advanced sports driving. Several years ago, when they taught me to drive, they also changed the way I understand driving and above all to understand the use of the four basic controls – three if we talk about automatic transmissions – which are the steering , the clutch , the brakeand the accelerator .
To get into the practice, I took a half-filled water bottle representing a car. The water represents something impalpable, that is the weight and mass of the vehicle. The moment I go to brake , the car loads on the front unloading the rear. On the contrary, when I go to accelerate , the weight of the car moves backwards, therefore unloading the front part and loading the rear. Understanding this concept is the key to trying to drive better and above all to drive safer and more economically.
Now the game lies precisely in keeping the weight between the front and rear as balanced as possible , thus keeping the car much more neutral and consequently having easier reactions to control. I am neither a professional driver nor an instructor, however, I did several safe and sporty driving courses and after many kilometers done behind the wheel, I managed to bring that little concept that I was taught in the course also in my driving.
